afterform enters ArchiBest's AI & Vernacular Architecture competition
Our entry studies how AI-driven design can learn from local building traditions rather than flatten them. Written at entry, before the result.
Written in June 2026, when the entry went in. The competition has since been decided: the scheme took first place.
afterform has entered ArchiBest's AI & Vernacular Architecture competition.
The premise we're working to: AI imagery tends to homogenise, reaching for the same glassy, placeless gloss whatever the brief. Vernacular architecture is the opposite instinct, with forms shaped by a specific climate, material and culture. Our entry asks whether AI can be directed to learn from those local traditions rather than erase them.
It's the kind of question AF_LAB exists to chase: a self-initiated experiment where the value is in the judgement, not the volume. We'll publish the full entry once the competition allows. For now it sits in development.
